Materials and Methods used in a Sunroom Living Kit
Our sunroom kits are designed to collect, store, and distribute the heat from solar energy in the winter and reject it in the summer. Optimal use of natural daylight contributes greatly to energy efficiency.
Roof Design
Our roof slopes vary. Generally, a 12-foot-wide room has a 4/12 or 3/12 roof pitch, and a 16-foot-wide room generally uses a 3/12 roof pitch. The roof comes complete with a 2’x6′ tongue and groove decking, which forms an attractive ceiling strong enough to support even the heaviest of snow loads! Our vented roof systems include 1/2-inch exterior sheathing, vapor barrier, flashing, drip edge and building felt. The roof is insulated to R-38. You will need to provide the shingles to match your house.
Curved Wooden Arches
Our signature design element is our curved wooden arches. Hand crafted from southern yellow pine harvested from sustainably managed forests, these beams are a work of art! The beams arrive ready to be stained, oiled, or vanished to your taste and style.
Double-Layer, Solar Glass Panels
Our glass is made to collect the sun’s warmth in winter. It is tempered for extra strength. Panels normally measure 4′ x 6’ or 5′ x 6′, but can customized as needed. Measuring 1 inch thick, each panel is made of two layers of 3/16′ tempered glass (with an insulating pocket between layers), double sealed along the edges to prevent fogging or streaking. Low-E glass is standard with all kits. Other glass is available upon request.
Our solar glass panels have a bonus effect that blocks 50% of the UV rays that can damage your furniture and flooring. The use of skylights in your room can allow for greater control of temperature and comfort levels.
Glazing System
Our glazing systems holds glass panels in place and locks out air or moisture leaks. Our kits include sill plates, an attractive mahogany frame and trim, and architectural sealants. The panels are simple to install, and we believe any homeowner can do it. It’s practically fool proof!
Sidewalls
Standard 2’ x 6‘ stud wall construction is used, which allows wiring or plumbing through the walls. Walls include exterior sheathing, fiberglass insulation, and vapor barrier. Knee walls and Gable Room side walls include exterior sheathing, High-R vapor barrier, and fiberglass insulation. You can add the interior wall finish on site or select one of our natural wood finishes. The side walls are insulated to R-20. You will need to supply exterior siding to blend with the rest of your house.
